HSE Superintendent

Reporting to the QHSE Manager, the Health & Safety Superintendent is responsible for organizing, planning, and overseeing the implementation of the health and safety policies and regulations at LAFIGUE, and following up with all HODs. Additionally, the Health & Safety Superintendent will record, measure and ensure the follow-up of the action plans.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the development of Occupational Health and Safety strategies, systems, and procedures, and ensure they are in line with corporate requirements and consistent across all sites
• Ensure that the organization is aware of, and complies with, all legislation in relation to the use of its plant, equipment and substances, as well as in all workplace activities
• Promote occupational health and safety and develop safer and healthier ways of working
• Supervise and participate in the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend appropriate remedial action
• Coordinate, when necessary, emergency procedures, mine rescues, firefighting and first aid crews
• Communicate frequently with management to report on the status of the health, safety and strategy and risk management strategy
• Continually review processes and procedures to ensure statutory requirements are met
• Facilitate accident and incident investigations to ensure that root causes are identified and appropriate corrective actions to address causes are instigated
• Prepare processes for incidents reports
• Inspect the premises and ensure compliance with all safety regulations
• Perform routine checks, investigate incidents, data mine costs and ensure safety and hazard free environment
•  Manage safety and environmental audits as required to determine system compliance and effectiveness
• Analyze Safety and Environmental information and statistics to identify areas for focused intervention
• Integrate and align Safety and Environmental pro-active risk management techniques
• Identify the development needs of operational management and work groups required to achieve best practice standards in Safety and Environmental management
• Ensure that employee suggestions and complaints regarding safety are evaluated.

Requirements:

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in SHEQ management or equivalent
• Certified Safety Professional/NEBOSH IGC or equivalent Relevant experience
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in OHS roles, preferably experience in mining industry
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining industry
• French / English language skills are essential
• Working experience with pack office Microsoft
• Experience of working effectively in a senior management team environment
• Experience working in a multicultural environment, preferably in West Africa
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks
•  Demonstrate strong conceptual skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions
• Ability to respond to a changing work environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time
