Project Construction Superintendent

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Projects Superintendent will take charge of Earthworks, Civils & Piping installation across the Tailings Expansion and other stay in business Projects and is responsible for supporting the Projects Team in overseeing the delivery of all Construction aspects of the tailings storage facility expansion and ongoing infrastructure.

This role will with work closely with the Earthworks Contractor and the SMI Piping and maintenance teams to ensure the timely execution of the bulk earthworks for the ongoing TSF works and return water and tailings distribution pipelines and mechanical installations. The primary objective of the role is to ensure Construction Conformance against the required quality standards is achieved, including monitoring of safe working procedures and productivity against the agreed work plan.

Responsibilities:

Construction Management

• Work with the closely with the existing Construction Superintendent and Supervisors in monitoring daily production performance relating to Bulk earthworks, Civil works and Piping Installation (Mechanical Installation).
• Take charge of SMI Piping (Poly-welding team) & labour to install the HDPE Return Water & Tailings Distribution piping.
• Ensure that the SMI Surveyor correctly picks up all work progressed during the month leading up to the final measure.
• Ensure that Instructions raised by the Construction Team to the Contractor are followed through to completion.

Compliance / Quality Control

• Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures, and standards.
• Consistently maintain a high quality of work within the maintenance team.
• Provide input regarding improvement opportunities and areas of risk.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements (including Company Policy, Standards, and Procedures) through training and development of staff and promoting by example.

Safety Management

• Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.  Ensure every person within the team is fit for work.
• Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
• Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures.
• Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
• Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.

Requirements

• Relevant Technical Training (Trade Certificate) or Engineering Diploma (Civil and/or Mechanical) is advantageous but not mandatory
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in a Site (Construction) role with firsthand experience in constructing Roads, Piping Installations and operational experience relating to the pumps/pump stations, constructing of Dams and Civil related works.
• Ability to interpret Construction drawings.
• Tracking Monitoring and reporting on Construction work plans.
• Solid understanding of soil mechanics, bulk earthworks methods and construction execution as well as HDPE Piping Installations.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and supervise a small team.
• English language skills desired and advantageous
• Experience within the mining sector in Africa or remote work locations
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks.
• Strong Leadership and the ability to analysis Construction complexities and propose mitigations/solutions where required
• Be prepared to challenge what we do.
• Demonstrated experience in working within heavy industry/mining operations with appropriate skills in
