Population Health Branch is seeking a strategic and analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills for the position of Epidemiologist. This position, reporting to the Manager, Surveillance, conducts population health assessment (including but not limited to mortality, birth, health status, and sexual and reproductive health) and immunization, adverse event, chronic disease, injury and risk factor surveillance; and manages data requests for research and evaluation purposes. Our candidate of choice will have the ability to successfully plan, lead and manage multiple projects related to public health and population health assessment. This requires the ability to clearly define information requirements, apply epidemiology principles and research methodologies, communicate clearly and work cooperatively with others to meet Ministry, public health, and client needs.

Knowledge of the principles and methodologies of epidemiology, surveillance and health research,public health functions, and the strengths and limitations of using large administrative databases for surveillance and research is required. Also contributing to your success will be the ability to determine and apply appropriate statistical analyses using common statistical software. Demonstrated working knowledge of SAS is essential and advanced features of other software such as Excel are preferred. Knowledge of health programs, services, systems, and structures in Saskatchewan (or another provincial or territorial jurisdiction) is preferred.

Typically, the knowledge and skills for this position are obtained through the completion of a graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related discipline together with significant experience in surveillance, research and database use.
